a group of German students against Nazism

Presented at the Maison du Souvenir de Maillé until 31. August 2015

From June 1942 to February 1943, the Munich resistant students group « White Rose », German intellectual and peace movement, including Hans and Sophie Scholl, tries to call the awakening of consciousness and resistance to oppression of Nazi regime.

In their leaflets, they rise up and denounce the sufferings caused by war, deprivation of liberties imposed by the Hitler regime and the enslavement of minds. They are also among the first to warn about the threats to the Jewish population.

Multiplying actions, they will take more and more risks until their arrest and execution in 1943, after a summary trial.

A key exhibition exploring some unknown aspects of the Second World War and leading to a reflection on citizen resistance to totalitarianism and commitment.
