Tribute to the Hale, godfathers and citizens of honor of Maillé
at the Maison du Souvenir !
On the occasion of the unpublished release in France of the book by Kathleen Burke Hale La Blanche Route de Verdun / « The White Road to Verdun » (Anovi editions), the Maison du Souvenir presents the exhibition tribute to the American benefactors of Maillé « From Santa Barbara to Maillé. .. the Hales, 1889-1958 « , realized in 2008.
This exhibition traces the journey of Kathleen and Girard Hale, including their unknown actions during the First World War. Indeed, even before their marriage, they both increased operations in favor of wounded soldiers and civilians who were victims of the conflict. These resulted in Kathleen ending the war by being one of the most decorated women in this conflict. In 1917, after several months of experience as a lobbyist with the Scottish Women’s Hospital at Royaumont, she wrote La Blanche Route de Verdun (« The White Road to Verdun »), which will be published across the Atlantic in order to influence the commitment of the United States in the conflict.
This temporary exhibition was made for the 50th anniversary of the death of the famous American couple who sponsored Maillé after the massacre of 25 August 1944 and was inaugurated in 2008 by Prince Albert of Monaco himself. She traces the exceptional life of this philanthropic and committed couple.
